REALTORS® FEATURE MARC FRIEDLAND FOR JANUARY MEETING
Fort Collins, CO January 12, 2010

RESPA was enacted in 1974 to provide consumers with improved disclosures of settlement costs and to reduce the costs of closing by the elimination of referral fees and kickbacks. Through the years, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued regulations and policy statements to provide RESPA guidance to consumers and the real estate industry. New RESPA rules have taken effect beginning January 1, 2010, and Mr. Friedland will present an update to FCBR members.
When one becomes a REALTOR®, and is not just a real estate agent, a mandatory class on Code of Ethics must accompany the application. Understanding, and complying, with RESPA rules is part of the REALTORS® Code of Ethics. The National Association of REALTORS® is the Voice of Real Estate, and the local Fort Collins Board of REALTORS® represents nearly 1,000 REALTORS® in and around Fort Collins.
